Monthly wrap-up: finding nature in literature, paying attention, Coleridge-Keats-Yeats, my favourite Joni Mitchell album, sexy tennis players and vampires, a forgotten Woody Allen masterpiece & more
Great stuff here, thank you! I'm thinking it's possible I have not seen Interiors - so very much appreciating the reference here.
And what a great connection between Challengers and the DFW quote. I once went to a reading at UC-San Diego by the poet Sharon Olds, expecting a small group of poetry fans, and was shocked to find that the auditorium was packed. Then this young guy wearing a bandana got up to read from his essay "A supposedly fun thing I'll never do again" - he was unassuming, sardonic, and brilliant, and of course it was David Foster Wallace. I'm grateful that I managed to accidentally find myself in a (very large) room with him and his stories.
Thank you for the wonderful, engaging, collection here.
thank you so much for the appreciation!!! and oh my god I can’t believe you got to see that essay live… I’m a huge fan of his non fiction, and I’ve watched countless interviews on youtube 😅 so excited to start infinite jest next week!
